Managing Cybersecurity Risks in Railways - Part 2
25 Nov. 2021
The importance of proactive cybersecurity risk management has been demonstrated in several domains, and it is crucial for the railways not to make exception. As such, good practices for the various data assets of railway sector should be considered. And this is precisely what ENISA, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, has gathered in a comprehensive guide about existing approaches for railway IT and OT systems. ERA is, in turn, very interested in promoting best practices in railway cybersecurity.

European Data on Rails, the Linked Data Project
29 Oct. 2021
Do you need as a Railway Undertaking to verify the compatibility of your rail vehicle with a specific route? Do you need as Industrial to check the technical characteristics of piece of network to design a vehicle type? Or to verify alternative routes to the one you usually use?
Towards A Harmonised European Rail Pass
16 Sept. 2021
Have you ever tried to buy a single train ticket to travel across different European countries? Probably not. And even if you did, you would have realised that it’s much easier to book a flight between two European capital cities than the same trip with a train. It’s a pity, when you know that 8 billion passengers are using the train per year in Europe. This is 8 times more than air passengers!
Progress on Safety towards SERA: Issues and Actions for Railways in Europe
30 June 2021
European railways remain among the safest in the world with major accidents becoming increasingly rare and significant accidents decreasing in the last years. Still, significant accidents alone represent an economical cost of about 3,5 billion Euros per year.
Online Launch of the European Rail Safety Climate Survey
16 June 2021
In order to further improve safety in the European rail system, the Agency is conducting a unique safety perception survey open to all rail professionals working in the European Union and in EFTA states: the European Rail Safety Climate Survey (ERA-SCS). It is an online survey hosted on the EUSurvey platform, available in 22 European languages on smartphones, tablets and computers.
Maintenance of vehicles - What is new and what you need to know
7 June 2021
The maintenance of vehicles is an important part of the safety system as a whole. In the past the lack of a system for certification of ECMs has led to increased costs for the sector and journeys without loads. The management of maintenance was not defined clear enough, not sufficiently controlled and the absence of harmonised rules hampered international competition on the market and international traffic, mainly for freight.

How Rail Freight helps achieving Climate Goals (Part 2 of 2)
20 May 2021
As part of the Green Deal, a modal shift in freight transport from mostly road to rail is necessary, with the objective to double rail freight traffic by 2050. In this webinar ERA presents the second part of the report “Fostering the railway sector through the European Green Deal”. This webinar includes debates with the audience on some proposed measures to increase and better manage railway capacities and to promote rail freight in more general terms.

COP26: A Green Mobility and Transport system at the service of Carbon Neutral EU local communities
12 Oct. 2021
Trains account for 10% of mobility but only 3% of energy in transport. And 0.3% of greenhouse gas emissions. Have a look at the video ERA produced for the COP26 in Glasgow.
