ERA works together as far as technical and operational aspects are concerned with the Organisation for Co-operation between Railways (OSJD) to analyse the relationship between the 1435 mm and the 1520/1524 mm railway systems, together with a strategic evaluation on the possibility of future convergence between the two systems (keeping apart the gauge differences).
Nowadays, collaboration activities are focused on:
- Comparative analysis of technical specifications for interoperability requirements to those existing in OSJD area; and
- Exchange of experience to coordinate measures for preservation and improvement of technical and operational compatibility and seamless international railway transport between Europe and Asia.
The outcomes of the joint ERA-OSJD work (ERA-OSJD Contact Group) contribute to the revision process of technical specifications for interoperability and can be of interest for any party analysing requirements for subsystems in the member countries of EU and OSJD.
The renewed MoU applies from 1 January 2020. It builds on existing cooperation strengths and helps to readjust to the current international railway agenda.
