Elise Pikaar

Human Factors Specialist

Dutch Railways (NS)

Elise is a Human Factors Specialist at the Dutch Railways (NS) since 2017. In that time she has developed multiple awareness campaigns for operational personnel on topics such as Fit to drive and safety communication for train managers and has researched a Connected Driver Advisory System (C-DAS) for train drivers in a simulator study. For the past four years her work has focused on the implantation of ERTMS with the impact on the train driver in mind.

Maintaining ERTMS skills and knowledge

(Presentation is in collaboration with Mark van Dooren) NS (Dutch Railways) needs to start training  train drivers in ERTMS in order to have enough ERTMS skilled drivers in the future. The Netherlands does not currently have enough ERTMS tracks for train drivers to practice their ERTMS skills after their training. NS has therefore developed a ERTMS skill and knowledge maintenance plan. The plan is currently being researched from a Human Factors perspective. The presentation will focus on this research and give examples.
